September 1998 saw the introduction of the compact and easy-to-use Rakuraku 292 Super Star, our shipping support system for low-volume shipping designed to rationalize customers' distribution tasks.

In order to exchange relevant physical distribution information with our customers, Fukuyama Transporting uses an online EDI (Electric Data Interchange) freight management system employing a state-of-the-art, 24-hour-a-day, networked computer. Customers' information processing systems are linked to our system at the Head Office via an online network, enabling not only flexible import and export customs clearance but also the preparation of relevant documents and the provision of consulting services. In essence, the system permits management of the full range of information relating to customers' physical distribution requirements, including product inspection, sorting, packaging, and pricing, all the way to subsequent distribution and delivery.

By forming closer relationships with our customers and acting as their agent to perform necessary information processing and business tasks ranging from shipment to delivery, we are working to create new demand. Fukuyama Transporting continually strives to enhance its information infrastructure, both within and outside the company. With an eye to the future development of the EDI system, Fukuyama Transporting is extending its online information network, and today the system can be accessed from 250 locations nationwide. Through the use of this sophisticated system, we become EDI partners with our customers, standardizing information between the shipper, Fukuyama Transporting and the receiver to rationalize and automate procedures that customers previously found complex and time consuming.

Customer needs in the shipping industry have become multifaceted in recent years. The simple cargo shipping of the past is no longer adequate; today's business demands a wide range of service.

As an example of Fukuyama Transporting's innovations in physical distribution, we would like to introduce the Fashion Center. Here, we process imported apparel products. After customs clearance, the products arrive at the center, Hanging products are automatically counted and inspected. If packaged in cases, their cases are opened and the products are collated for counting. After inspection for foreign objects, the products are pressed, hung, and stored together with other hanging products. Post-packaging services such as pricing and sorting are performed at time of shipment from the warehouse. Products are then delivered through our distribution centers.
At this processing center, we have automated the textile industry's numerous shipping tasks while also acting as its agent. This is one more way in which we satisfy the needs of the marketplace.
